The Role Of The Writer.

While writing the script for the Lord Of The Rings movie, they had to make quite a few changes from the book.

The few female characters in the book had to be given larger roles. The reason is that these kind of roles they took on were old fashioned and that people of day in age wouldn't like them. They were changed to fit the modern age. Back when the book was written, men and women weren't equal back then. Women had only just had the power to vote. They were only just considered housewives back then. To appeal to female audiences in a modern age, they made female characters much more powerful.

1. Arwen who was an elf princess in Rivendell only ever showed up for 1 page of the book but in the movie her romance for Aragorn is shown in much more detail. She is given a more major role in the film.
2. Galadriel who was Lady of the Wood wasn't shown much in the book even though she had an important role. She was given more of a role as a support for Frodo so he can keep going when he is close to breaking.
3. Eowyn is the niece of the king of Rohan. She was the one who killed the witch king In The Return Of The King. Her role was expanded so that she would appear in the second film. They also took out a scene where she said she would give up the role of a warrior to become a house wife. She was on the battlefield clearly among the soldiers. in the battle in the movie she killed much people then in the book.

A few major character were cut from the movies.

1. Glorfindel was taken out in the scene after Frodo got stabbed in the fellowship. He was meant to save Frodo but instead Arwen took her place. The reason for this because he never took much of a role in the book.
2. Tom Bombadil is a man who lived in the forest next the Boron Downs village. He save the hobbits while they were try to traverse the forest but they got in danger. He gave them a place to stay until there injuries healed. He was taken out because his role was not important for the main plot.

During the book there is a whole lot of back story and lore that is mentioned. The problem is that all this is at several different parts. The problem is that you can't just suddenly break into the movie and put some back story. So what they did is they put the most important parts in the beginning a story that Gandalf tells. This often done in the movie.

With some characters in the book it isn't mentioned much backstory. Take Gimli for example. He maybe an important character to the book but we don't know much about him personally. What the writers did is that they had they interviewed the actor while he in his role. This game them a sort of source to write about the character.
